And you thought teens didn't write letters...

Everyone knows that the younger generations rarely send a handwritten note. Well it turns out they aren't too fond of email, either. At the Nielsen Consumer 360 event, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg stated that only 11% of teens email daily. Now we have to read between the lines here, but it is pretty safe to assume that teens do communicate with eachother, and that they are instead using social networking, instant messaging services, and mobile as their primary means of communication. Email is just too slow.

Most universities and companies rely heavily on email as the primary employee communication tool, and it will be interesting to see how teen reliance on more social forms of communication forces an evolution in how students collaborate with professors at the university level, and as they continue to age, in the workplace exchanging information with older generations of managers. If this is uncomfortable to some, look on the bright side - pretty soon we won't have to worry about our mailbox size limit!
