Luxe College Life Hits the Restaurant Scene

As they said in the Gen X manifesto AVENUE Q: "I wish I could go back to college." Now you can - or at least to the cafeteria. Brian Young, the former chef at Tavern on the Green, is launching Hudson Hall, a new restaurant in New York's Hudson Hotel that's being called a "modern collegiate mess hall." They got all the details right: cafeteria trays, lunch lady uniforms, communal tables and a self servie food bar. A video installation will depict idealized images of college life.

At a time when the "real world" is a tough place to be, consumers are longing for the simpler times in college when, for a lucky group, their parents still paid the bills, and their biggest stresses were a rowdy roommate and an English Lit exam.

We just hope that, this time around, the food is better - and that we don't gain the dreaded Freshman 15.
